March 27 ~ Everyday Gospel ~ Easter

Resurrection Sunday is here! Passion week is complete.

Jesus is alive!

He has conquered death. We have nothing to fear!

Peter was the Apostle who made incredible proclamations one moment, and then would completely blow it the next. I love Peter, because I see in him our humanity. Our desire to “get it right” and the transparency to reveal how often we get it wrong.

When it comes to what Jesus has accomplished on this day nearly 2,000 years ago…Peter gets it oh so right…

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
‭‭~ 1 Peter‬ ‭1:3-9‬

Yes!

Today’s Good News is Jesus has secured all of this for those who believe. We see in Peter’s writing that it is God who has caused us to be “born again” – He is the One at work saving our souls.

Also note that ours is a “living hope!” As the old hymn says,

“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.

Because He lives, all fear is gone.

Because I know who holds the future.

And life is worth the living just because He lives.”

Celebrate! Though we were in rebellion against Him, Jesus has willing laid down His life to purchase our forgiveness and to reconcile us back to God! He laid down His life and raised it back up again, and the same power that raised Jesus from the dead raises us from the dead (spiritually now, physically in the future). This same power, in the Person of the Holy Spirit, lives within all who believe!

He’s alive! And because He lives, so can you! That’s really Good News!
