I awoke this morning to the realization that I am 49…forty-freaking-nine!

I’m not sure how that’s even possible, cuz I’m pretty sure I just graduated high school.

One major problem in our family is three of our four birthdays fall during tax season, so we get a little short-changed on birthdays.

Yet, today, as I had time to see all my friends wishing me Happy Birthday, and my wife and children posting the sweetest messages (and pictures), I could not help but be overwhelmed with how blessed I truly am.

As an added bonus, tonight was the night our church (which some label a small group) gathered together. I love being with these people! The food is always great; the conversations are deep and yet filled with laughter; the love is unmistakable. Once again, I am truly blessed.

As another birthday comes to a close, my prayer for you is that you would know the love of the Father and the depth of His grace towards you.

You see, all of these blessings in my life have nothing to do with my behavior – apart from Christ, my behavior would be atrocious – believe me, I know me. No, I am blessed because of what has been done for me, by the One who saved me from me. His love has, and continues to, transform me from the inside out.

Truth is, I don’t believe we can love others until we’ve been loved, and I know we cannot love unconditionally until we’ve experienced being unconditionally loved. This is the love of the Father.

Thank you, to all of you who are in my life, and I pray that whatever else you may see in me, you see Jesus first!
