March 20 ~ Everyday Gospel ~ Passion 1

I want to pause the “It is finished” posts as this is Passion week. This is Palm Sunday which represents Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

All four Gospels record this event (Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:29-44, John 12:12-19).

While it is called the triumphal entry, Jesus is fully aware of what the week would hold for Him. We even see Him crying over the city of Jerusalem because He knows they will reject Him. He also predicts the cities destruction – which did come to pass in 70 AD.

Jesus briefly visits the temple and then goes to Bethany with His disciples for the evening (Mark 1:11).

Here we see the heart of God. Jesus is the perfect representation of God (Colossians 1:15), and we see Him weeping over the city. His desire is for them to know Him as the One who has come to reconcile them to the Father.

Today’s Good News is Jesus feels the exact same way about us. His mission included us, and He celebrates when we believe and weeps when we reject.

As we move toward Easter, we can be assured that everything Jesus did was with you and me in mind. His Passion is to renew all things – including us – and that’s Good News!
