March 4 ~ Everyday Gospel ~ Abundance

Yesterday I ended with John 10:10 – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

In our Western mindset we read a verse like this and easily begin to think, “God owes me a nice car, a big house, a fat bank account…” Sadly, that’s often our view of what “abundance” means.

It’s so much better than that! Have you ever noticed that those with a lot of material possessions are often some of the most depressed people? If this form of abundance was the answer, then places like Hollywood should be filled with the most satisfied and happy people…but it’s not.

Conversely, people who live in tents with no floors, who have little to no clothing, who have to harvest and hunt daily for their food should be the most depressed people…but they’re not.

Sure, there are happy rich people and sad poor people, but it’s not their wealth or scarcity that makes one fulfilled or empty.

Today’s Good News is contentment is possible regardless of every single external circumstance – every single one!

Biblical abundance is having everything you need when you need it. Another Shabbot begins in a few minutes (sundown Friday night). God has seen you through another week, and He’s provided you with everything you possess – materially, relationally, physically, and spiritually.

Do you feel content? If not, may I boldly suggest you take a few moments right now to consider all you have already recieved from a Heavenly Father who loves you. I believe if you do an honest assessment you will see you really are blessed beyond measure – and that’s Good News.
